Escape from Hirilorn by Maitia Escape from Hirilorn by Maitia
It's that time of year again where I attempt to paint Lúthien. This time, she's growing her hair for her escape from Hírilorn.
It was drawn mainly at work (and so took ages), but I'm so pleased, because this new hot-pressed watercolour paper is so good! It doesn't bulge out, and it's wonderfully smooth! Huzzah!

Anyway, Lúthien Tinúviel is from The Silmarillion and thus ©JRR Tolkien.

This is lovely :) I think the pale, ephemeral air to this painting really captures the feel of the Lay of Leithien.

Thank you so much for your kind words. :D
The Lay of Leithian is probably my favourite part of the Silmarillion, which is why I draw it so much. Or, you know, scenes from it.

Beautiful work. I especially like Luthien's bone structure.

Me too. I used a really lovely photo as reference, and it sort of pains me that some people actually look like that. Sigh. But then again, we can use them for reference for when we're painting elves, so that's good. :D

Thank you!
Really, so much of it is the new paper. You can do almost anything with it! It's wonderful.
I'm glad you like it.

What a beautiful Luthien! It's been some time since I've seen one so beautiful... Really deserves her reputation as the most beautiful chil the world have ever seen.

Thank you very much. I guess her beauty is the main reason she's so hard to draw, so I'm really glad you like it.

Well, practice is practice, whether it's digital or traditional media.
I really need to use my tablet more. It's been too long.
