I'm so excited. I just can't hide it.

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 18, 2013, 12:34 PM

In light of the great news about the new Potter film series, I thought I should probably update my journal to something more Potter-esque.
I am so excited!
I know that a lot of people are very sceptical about the whole thing, but this is the queen herself writing the screenplay! I firmly believe it will be awesome because:
    1.     It won't be an adaptation of a book, so nothing will be lost in the translation.
    2.     It won't be written by somebody else - it'll be pure, undiluted Rowling.
    3.     It won't be about Harry at all, so no need to fear some sort of prequel. Voldemort will be a small boy, or not even born yet, at the time the story is set.
    4.     We'll get loads of really cool magical beasts.
    5.     Newt is a seriously cool dude.
    6.     Get excited!

In other news, I'm preparing for an exhibition, which is going to be a lot of fun, I think. The theme is "Clash between reality and the unreal", which means I get to paint a lot of really cool things. Like fish with butterfly wings, strange trees etc.

I know I haven't been active on DA for a while, but I hope to change that soon.
That's all for now, but please feel free to message me to flail about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

... Seriously, get excited!

The curious case of Umbilical Cord Guy

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 15, 2012, 10:16 AM

Pointless trivia about me..

The guy who lives across from me, and whom I've secretly nicknamed Umbilical Cord Guy because he seems to be dependent on his mama still, came knocking on my door in the middle of the night. I was up anyway, studying for my exam, so I answered the door and asked if I could help him. He asked me if I had a credit card. I said yes. Then he asked if he could borrow my credit card and said he'd pay me back in the morning.
He's the guy who' so far failed to return a towel (that he can keep, because eww) and a lamp he's borrowed from me almost a year ago. He also comes over when he's forgotten to buy toilet paper and once he presented me with a drawing of Spongebob - in the middle of the night.
Yeah, sorry pal, but no. I clearly can't trust you with a lamp, so I'm not about to hand over my credit card.

Ooh, and I got tagged by :iconnickyca: so in order to avoid his wrath and heavenly vengeance, I shall answer his questions. I won't tag more people, though, because that's not how I roll. I'm a rebel, I know. Fear me. No, really.

1. What's your favourite Pokemon? I...am a little too old for Pokémon, actually. The only one I really know the name of is Pikachu. Which is actually the punchline of a really terrible Danish joke. Because pik is Danish for dick. You can guess the rest, I think.

2. What's your favourite TV Drama? SHERLOCK! But I also like House.

3. Who's your favourite writer? I can't choose! There are so many good ones! Tolkien and Rowling and Susanna Clarke and Philip Pullman and Javier Cercas and Hans Christian Andersen and Stephen Fry and Federico García Lorca and Daphne du Maurier, etc etc.

4. Say something about yourself that you (or others) deem "cute". I've been told repeatedly that I'm a puppy. Which I suppose is true in that I am almost always cheerful. I get excited very easily and then I'm just bouncing off the walls and ceiling. I eat blue m&ms because they colour my tongue. Then I wiggle it at people.

5. What's your animal? Well, my parents have a dog, if you mean a pet. Spirit animal? Erm. I dunno. I'm born in the year of the tiger, according to the Chinese zodiac, and if you've ever seen the way a tiger can laze about, I suppose that's pretty accurate. I dunno about the ferocity, though. Or the whole meat-eating thing. I'm probably more like some kind of vegetarian bird. Probably a hyacinth macaw or a Blue Jay, I think.

6. What's your favourite food? Risotto with chanterelles. But also chocolate. Chocolate is good. Yeah.

7. What song do you do your funniest dance to? Eye of the tiger.

8. What do you really hate? Indifference. Being enthusiastic about something only to have people backing out of it. If they don't want to do it or are too lazy, they should say so instead of pretending and then backing out.

9. If you were a household object, what would you be? That special favourite cup you only use for tea and hot chocolate.

10. What's your favourite mode of transport? Broomstick. But I go by bike a lot. Often it's faster than going by bus, and it's certainly more convenient.

11. List 10 or more things you like about yourself.
:bulletyellow: I have a good ear for music and can usually pick apart a song or play it if I've just heard it before. I'm good at learning new songs quickly and I love singing and music generally.
:bulletyellow: I'm creative. I paint, I draw, I write, I write and arrange music, I sing and I've even made a sculpture or two. I love to create and I love to be creative with people.
:bulletyellow: I'm enthusiastic. I do the things I do because I like them and they make me happy.
:bulletyellow: I can sew. It's very practical.
:bulletyellow: I love to read. I think it's important to read.
:bulletyellow: I'm determined. I have to be or I'd never get things done. Like I run every other day without fail. Which means I've run whilst on holiday, I've run despite bleeding blisters on my feet and every winter I run during a blizzard.
:bulletyellow: I'm very lucky to have a happy disposition. I know people who struggle with mood swings and depressions, and I'm very happy not to have to go through that myself.
:bulletyellow: I have a dirty sense of humour. I regret nothing!
:bulletyellow: I'm an anglophile.
:bulletyellow: I can always sleep. It's very convenient.

I'm not lazy, I swear!

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 13, 2011, 6:54 PM

Well, it's been a while and I think I'm going to stop doing the featured art thing, simply because I'm not as active here on DA anymore. I'm just pressed for time.
I swear, I don't mean to neglect DA. It's just that I have two choirs, one of which I direct and arrange and write songs for, school, work, volunteer work, tutoring Spanish, drabbles, doodles, prompts and commissions. And, you know, life besides that. So I don't really browse DA as much as I used to. I simply don't have time.

I' going to London again soon, by the way, and I'm very excited about it.
For now, though, I'll leave you and go to sleep.

I was tagged. Also, hi!

Pointless trivia about me..

:bulletblue: I'm back from my trip to London, which was lovely, by the way. I went with my best friend and we had a great time. This time, we didn't really go sightseeing. We did go shopping in Camden and Notting Hill, visited British Museum, Kew Gardens and saw Wicked. It was awesome! And I got me some pink Starkid sunglasses! Yay!

:bulletblue: Anyway. I got tagged by Maddy (:icondee387:), so I guess I'd better do this.

Rules:
1. Answer the 10 questions, made by your tagger
2. Then type up 10 new questions, and tag 5 (or more if you like) people to answer them. (Tag other people? I shall do no such thing. I'm such a rebel. You're shocked, I know.)
3. They can be random questions, but may not be rude or sexual in nature.

1. What song makes you smile?
:bulletyellow: No fair. So many songs do that. Isn't that exactly the point of music? But I suppose I get a sort of serene smile every time I listen to Strawberry Swing by Coldplay. Or Sarah by Ray LaMontagne. Or Wonderful World by Sam Cooke. Or How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) by Sam & Dave. The list goes on.

2. Why did the chicken cross the road?
:bulletyellow: Because there were monkeys on hovercrafts. Don't tell me you wouldn't cross the road for that! You would. Don't deny it!

3. What movie last made you cry?
:bulletyellow: HP7p2. I speak in codes. And movies don't usually make me cry. Books do, though.

4. Are you a Pastafarian?
:bulletyellow: Well DUH! All praise the Spaghedeity, his Noodliness the Flying Spaghetti Monster. We are all touched by His Noodly Appendages.

5. Favourite childhood show?
:bulletyellow: Errr... I dunno. I didn't really watch that much TV when I was little (still don't). I'm not sure I have one.

6. Was the last Harry Potter a letdown?
:bulletyellow: No. The epilogue felt weird because I kept thinking "They're younger than me and yet they have pretend children", but on the whole, I feel I must bow down before the epicness that was the last film. Well, the last two, really.

7. Who makes you smile when you feel crap?
:bulletyellow: A lot of people. My friends. My family. My dog (oh, Bingo, how I love you). People on tumblr. I don't often feel that bad, though. I suppose I'm a bit of an annoying, bouncy optimist?

8. Snow or the Beach?
:bulletyellow: The beach, but in the evening, with a dog that's frolicking in the water because I just threw a stick for him to fetch. Yeah. That's awesome.

9. Who do you ship?
:bulletyellow: The canon pairings, really. I am passionate about Klaine, Rane and JOGAN (although Jogan is one-sided for the moment, so not quite canon). If you do not know what/who Rane and Jogan are, click the link to the left, that says "Dalton - A Glee fanfic". You can thank me later.

10. What the HELL is a Hufflepuff??
:bulletyellow: A special kind of nunchuck made from leeks. Deadly and delectable.

Prepare to be noodled..

:bulletblue: Okay, so I didn't update for months and I'm sorry about that. Life and then exams got in the way. I won't be using this journal as much, I suspect. I don't really want to spam my watchers with annoying journal updates about my life (probably boring), so I think I'll maybe stick with featuring cool artwork and dropping a line or two.

:bulletblue: My real rambling and strange blogging about my life will happen on my tumblr instead, so if anybody feels the need to read about things like my religious devotion to pasta (the spaghedeity also known as The Flying Spaghetti Monster), you can just go there. Link is to the left.

:bulletblue: I am looking for drawing prompts, though, so if anybody has any suggestions as to what you'd like me to draw, let me know. I won't promise I'll do it (time has not been my friend lately), but I'll try, and it's wonderfully inspiring to hear other people's suggestions.
That is all for now.

Just one more week, my fellow gleeks.

:bulletblue: I got a tumblr account. It's: maitia.tumblr.com/ Feel free to follow me.

:bulletblue: I have to say, I love my friends to bits! I actually got them (well, the ones in my choir, anyway) to sing A Very Potter songs with me. We've already got Days of Summer down and maybe we'll sing Not Alone, too, if I can do a proper harmony arrangement for it. Here's a link to a (somewhat scratchy and not altogether perfect, but still) recording of us singing Days of Summer: maitia.tumblr.com/post/4563301…

:bulletblue: Otherwise, not much is up. I'm loving school and trying to fit in as much time for drawing, singing, playing the piano (well, keyboard, really), sewing and stuff. Oh, and we had our spring concert in my other choir. It went well.

I finally have a life again

:bulletblue: I have, finally, submitted my Ph.D. application! I'm so relieved. At this point, I'm past caring if I get the scholarship or not, because I've freaked myself out so much just writing the damn thing. I'll just wait and see. There are so many applicants and so very few grants, so chances are small. But who cares, because I've given it a go.

:bulletblue: Okay. I need to spazz a little right now. Right? Because... we got a KLAINE KISS on Glee! :excited::boogie::faint: And it was beautiful and cute and I think I squealed like a little pig when I saw it. I was starting to doubt whether they'd ever get together, and with the whole Blaine/Rachel situation it didn't look too good. And then they went and did this! AND the songs for this ep were so good. Mmmm...

:bulletblue: Also, I may have just gotten a job as a Spanish tutor, so I'm really excited about that. This guy was in the university library, looking for Spanish students and he overheard me talking to a classmate about one of our Spanish teachers, so he came up and asked if we would be interested in tutoring his daughter, a high school student. Of course we said yes!

:bulletblue: I'm also thinking about getting a tumblr account. What do you think?

Burt Hummel appreciation post

:bulletblue: I'm getting quite stressed about the stupid Pd.D application. Thank goodness it'll all be over (for now, anyway) on Tuesday. I mean, why they want a confirmation from my professors that I've signed up for exams, when they can just look at the lists on the intranet, is beyond me. Stupid bureaucracy. Grumblemumble...
AND my counsellor is away for a conference, so I can't even pelt him with questions whenever I freak out about something for the application.

:bulletblue: On a more positive note, I've had an absolutely lovely day. Although, it was shortly interrupted by Jehovah's Witnesses. I resisted the urge to tell them I was a child of sin with extreme difficulty.
I woke up to an enthusiastic text from my friend (something along the lines of "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Are you up yet? Can we talk yet?") and we spent about an hour fangirling about the latest episode of Glee. That Burt is one cool dad. And Kurt is being a giant squid of ignorance and embarassment. Absolutely lovely.
:iconawesomebabyplz:

:bulletblue: Also, when I went to tutor my English student, she had a present for me. Jelly Belly shower gel! I didn't even know that existed and now I'm going to have a hard time trying not to eat it. It'll probably taste horrible. Does look delicious, though.

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 1, 2011, 2:27 PM

Raise your hands, perverts

:bulletblue: Wow. This Friday's Vegetarian Food Extravaganza was ... crazy. We ended up drawing elaborate moustaches on each other in chocolate sauce and discussing the feasibility of fitting 15,000 DKK worth of chickens into a backpack. At one point, my friend Lisa proudly announced that she had enough toes. Good times.

:bulletblue: My parents are home from their trip to the Andaman Islands and I'm trying my best to contain my jealousy. The photos look amazing and I really wish I could have come. Unfortunately, that would have meant missing too much school, so I'll have to make do with the photos.

:bulletblue: Also, today our totally awesome translation teacher did two unspeakable things: He let slip that he's never read Harry Potter (loud gasps of horror from all the students) and he said about a former translation client "I taught her English, actually. Not Porn English, just normal English" (we nearly died laughing). Seriously. Porn English? I almost wish I spoke it. Almost.

Like a unicorn in a tutu.

:bulletblue: I had an amazing day yesterday! I mean, my cheeks were actually sore from smiling and laughing so much. We had our second rehearsal with the quintet and it went really well. Singing just makes me insanely happy, especially if it involves awesome singers who are also awesome people! Aaaand we sang "Days of Summer" from A Very Potter Sequel, and "Star Wars- John Williams is the man" by... Moosebutter, I think? It was nerdy and fantastic and I'm just overcome with joy.
:boogie:

:bulletblue: Also, I'm thinking about taking up writing. Or maybe doing a comic strip and posting it here on dA. I have all these characters teeming around in my head and I think I need an outlet if I want to be able to focus on anything else ever again. And I need my focus, because...

:bulletblue:...my professor, who's sort of my PhD counsellor, said that I should start writing a draft for my PhD application. And I just know that's going to take a lot of time and effort. I'll be so relieved when I finally hand in the finished application in mid-March.

Help me, Stephen Hawking!

:bulletblue: Enough with the exams, please! I can't wait for them to be over. At this point, I've read so much that I wouldn't be surprised if I start dreaming about second language acquisition and pedagogy. Also, I'm desperately trying to find the right kind of toner cartridge for my printer, because HP refuses to recognise the serial number because it's registered wrongly on their homepage. I know; I've checked and double-checked. Not a good thing to happen in the middle of exams. I need my printouts. Desperately.

:bulletblue: Luckily, something rather wonderful has happened. For New Year's, I was at a friend's party, and one of her friends (whom I'd never met before) came up and asked me if I would be interested in starting a small singing group, like a quartet, with her. Hell yeah! I can't wait for the first practice session! I've already arranged a song that we can sing as a four-part harmony.

:bulletblue: Also, yesterday my friend Lars had half our class round for delicious food and wine galore. It was so funny I actually got a little sad at the idea that we only have one more semester together before we're going back to our majors. Luckily, Lars will be in the quartet too (making it a quintet, I guess). He has a lovely bass voice.

I've caught fangirl.

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 4, 2011, 5:39 PM

And I feel so conflicted

:bulletblue: Hope everyone had a nice holiday? Mine was... busy. I had to sing a lot, which was great, and write a lot on my exam paper, which was not so great. In fact, I'm sick of it, but it's nearly finished.
Just before the holidays, our water pipes, cleverly placed in the freezing glass-house by an architect, who must have been dropped on the head as a baby, froze, so for more than a week just around Christmas I had no water. Great. So I fled to my parents'.

:bulletblue: Also, I'm really having fun teaching my English student. It's brilliant!

:bulletblue: Okay, LONG STORY AHOY:

As usually happens when I'm supposed to be doing something important like exams, I've found a new THING. Last time it was House and Grey's Anatomy. I really thought, I'd give it a miss this year after watching all episodes of Glee. But then something unspeakable happened. I clicked a link I shouldn't have. To fanfiction.net
And I don't read fanfiction because it's weird and badly written. And I just don't. Except I did. And almost puked, it was so horrible. So I left, relieved.
Next day I found, here on DA, no less, a link to a Glee fanfic, and I couldn't help it. I was curious. So I read the first chapter. And then the 17 next ones. And I squealed. My inner fangirl woke up and smelled Kurt/Blaine fluff and now I'm hooked. It's actually not bad at all. It's even got twins in it that would shame Fred and George Weasley with their pranks. And now I've joined the fanclub. The humiliation is complete.
Read it at your own peril---> www.fanfiction.net/s/6515261/1…

:bulletblue: Okay, people: PLEASE STOP ASKING FOR POINTS! I am now only giving points out when I want to do it. Please understand that I am a poor student who can't afford to go giving out points to everyone and, frankly, I've been feeling a little pressured into donating recently. Therefore, I'm going to ignore all requests for point from now on.

:bulletblue: Today, our choir had our second Christmas concert this year and it went really well. They recorded us and I can't wait to hear the finished mix.

:bulletblue: Also, I went to my class' Christmas party on Friday and it was totally awesome! I got to wail Christmas carols with my friend Lars, and we had a long, drunken discussion about the merits of Stephen Fry and the wonderful Benedict Cumberbatch. And later it just got weird.

:bulletblue: Finally, I've got a lot on my plate right now. I'm one exam down, but I still have to prepare for my oral and write a ten page paper on how to teach at high school level. Also, I have to meet with my possible ph.d mentor to try and develop my ideas for a thesis, which, together with work and doing volunteer work helping children with their homework, puts quite a strain on my schedule. Oh, and my boyfriend and I split up, which is sad, obviously. Tomorrow I have a job interview for a teaching job, I'm really hoping to get. It would be fantastic work experience and the job itself just sounds wonderful. So fingers crossed.

Also, the actress who plays Tonks was there, giving autographs and introducing the film (and plugging her new cd), which was a bit weird because it was a tiny cinema, and not even in the capital city, so what was she doing there?

:bulletblue: The English department at my university had its Christmas party on Friday and it was great. I was in the choir that sang carols as part of the entertainment and I enjoyed it immensely. Only problem was; I had to get up quite early next morning to go to a classical concert.

:bulletblue: Finally, winter's come early. It's cold, it snows, and it's windy. Bloody weather. How am I supposed to ride my bike to school or to work when there's snow and ice all over the place because somebody hasn't bothered to clear the cycle lane?

Petty problems

Journal Entry: Wed Nov 10, 2010, 3:27 PM

I warned you: it's dull

:bulletblue: I have made a project of making Christmas calendars for my friends and family, and it seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm beginning to get fed up with colouring the damn things. I think, if I ever do this sort of thing again, I'm going to limit the number of people who get one, because this is a bit exhausting and I need to finish soon in order for everybody to get theirs on time. Lesson learned.

:bulletblue: Also, thanks to the wonderful world of note-taking, I bring you this quote from a (drunk) friend of mine: :drunk:
"Gunvor; someday, when you're dead and gone, someone will really appreciate your skull!"

:bulletblue: Other than that, I'm just frantically busy as usual, so no news there. Still addicted to Sherlock, though. Also, still mesmerized by romantic intrigues in class. I know. I am a hopeless gossip.

Happy Halloween

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 31, 2010, 3:06 PM

Let's celebrate the disembodiment of our favourite villain!

:bulletblue: First of all, let me just draw your attention to this piece of awesomeness
:pointr: :thumb178060975:
I've discovered the BBC's miniseries Sherlock and instantly become an avid fan. Go watch it if you can.

:bulletblue: Other than that, I'm frantically trying to formulate a problem that I would like to analyse in my Ph.D, if I ever get to do one. The odds are extremely long because there are only something like ten stipends a year and loads of people apply. For now, I just have to write something, I can give my professor.

:bulletblue: Lastly, I would just like to wish everyone a happy Halloween. :pumpkin:

Snotmonster

And mother of all bogies

:bulletblue: I have the sniffles. :runnynose:
Thank godness for nasonex, hot tea and ibuprophene. I was getting better, but then it started to rain when I was on my way to work - on my bike - and so now I'm sat here again with a blanket and a mug of tea. Stupid weather.

:bulletblue: Other than that, I'm fine. I had a great, albeit short, trip to Copenhagen, and I found an absolutely lovely purple dress to replace my old, rather worn one.

:bulletblue: The contest has officially ended, with :iconelviella: winning the kiriban in a strange turn of events. For now, I'm just waiting for her to decide on what she wants me to draw or paint.

:bulletblue: Lastly, I've a bit of a spring in my step these days, because our choir leader has agreed that we should sing a song I proposed, which is really good, and perform it at our next gig. :sing:

Maitia, conqueror of technology

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 13, 2010, 5:16 PM

Bow before me, computers!

:bulletblue: I'm so proud of myself right now. I managed to create a sort of conference between the people from my choir so that we can upload songs and info and stuff. I did this AFTER the teacher had said he didn't know how to make one. And I was never very good with these things, which makes my triumph so much the greater! Oh joy!

:bulletblue: By now, I've done two possible sketches for the logo/avatar commission, so I'm just waiting for their feedback.

:bulletblue: Also, although I was a bit sad when an old friend of mine said she wouldn't be able to come to Denmark anyway, it means that on that day I can instead go to this Night of Culture-thing with some other friends, which will be great, as one of our friends is dancing at the event.

:bulletblue: Lastly, I'm just really looking forward to the autumn break. I'm going to Copenhagen to visit my boyfriend and perhaps say hi to my grandparents. It'll be great.

:bulletblue: Oh, and I'm reading Twelfth Night and it is just hilarious! My little vegetarian-heart skipped a beat, when Sir Andrew Aguecheek (what a brilliant name) said: "Methinks sometimes I have no more wit than a Christian or an ordinary man has; but I am a great eater of beef, and I believe that does harm to my wit".
